Passive Skills Inheritance Guide

Learn how to guarantee passing down legendary traits like Legend and Musclehead to your perfect child Pal.

How Passive Inheritance Works

In Palworld, whenever a child hatches, it has a high chance of inheriting up to 4 passive skills from its direct parents. It can also randomly mutate new skills that neither parent possesses.

The 2+2 Rule (The Meta Strategy)

To get a child with exactly 4 specific traits (e.g., Legend, Musclehead, Ferocious, Burly Body), the most mathematically optimal parent combination is:

  • Parent 1: Has exactly 2 of the desired traits (and no others).
  • Parent 2: Has the other 2 desired traits (and no others).

Why? Because having "junk" traits on parents increases the noise in the pool, making it harder for the game to pick the 4 you actually want.

Inheritance Probability Estimates

While the exact in-game probability depends on patches, community testing suggests the following success rates per egg:

MethodApprox. Success RateDescription
2 + 2~10%Most efficient. Clean pool.
3 + 1~7%Good if you have one perfect 3-trait Pal.
4 + 4< 5%Too many options for the game; low success.
4 + 0LowHigh mutation rate occurs.
