How Palworld Breeding Works — Complete Mechanics Guide
Understanding the breeding system in Palworld is key to getting the Pals you want. This guide explains every mechanic — from Breeding Power to the Breeding Farm setup.
What is Breeding Power?
Every Pal in Palworld has a hidden Breeding Power value. This number is the backbone of the entire breeding system. Common Pals like Lamball have a Breeding Power around 1500, while legendary Pals like Jetragon have a Breeding Power as low as 10.
Child Breeding Power = (Parent 1 Power + Parent 2 Power + 1) / 2
The Pal closest to this result is the child
The game finds the Pal whose Breeding Power is closest to the calculated result and that becomes the child egg. This means you can predict breeding outcomes with 100% accuracy — which is exactly what our Child Calculator does.
Setting Up the Breeding Farm
To breed Pals, you first need to unlock and build the Breeding Farm (Technology Level 19). Once built:
- 1Place a male and female Pal of your chosen species into the Breeding Farm.
- 2Put one Cake in the Breeding Farm's item slot. (You craft Cake at a Cooking Pot.)
- 3Wait for the breeding to complete — this takes several in-game minutes.
- 4An egg will appear at the farm. Take it to an Egg Incubator to hatch it.
Cake Recipe
Cake is essential — without it, no breeding can start. Here's what you need to craft one Cake:
Special Breeding Combinations
Some Pal pairs have hardcoded results — they always produce a specific child regardless of what the formula says. For example, breeding Penking with Bushi always produces Anubis. Our calculator handles all these special cases automatically.
Passive Skill Inheritance
When breeding, the child has a chance to inherit passive skills from both parents. Each parent can contribute up to 2 passive skills, giving the child a potential pool of 4 traits to inherit from. For a full guide on optimizing passive skill inheritance, see our Passive Skill Breeding Guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does gender affect the breeding result?▾
No. You need one male and one female, but which specific gender each species is does not change the child. Only the species matter.
Can you breed Alpha Pals?▾
Alpha Pals can be used as parents if you have caught them. Their offspring will be normal (non-Alpha) versions of the child Pal.
How long does breeding take?▾
Breeding typically takes a few in-game minutes. You can speed this up by assigning Pals with the Handiwork or Kindling work suitability to your base.
Can you breed the same Pal species together?▾
Yes. Breeding two of the same species always produces another of the same species, making it useful for passive skill refinement.
