Palworld Breeding FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about Palworld's breeding system — for beginners and veterans alike.
Does gender matter when breeding in Palworld?▾
You need one male and one female Pal. However, which species is male vs. female has no effect on the child — only the species combination matters. So Anubis (male) + Bushi (female) gives the same result as Anubis (female) + Bushi (male).
What is Breeding Power in Palworld?▾
Breeding Power is a hidden number assigned to every Pal. Common Pals like Lamball have high power (around 1500), while rare Pals like Jetragon have low power (around 10). The child is determined by averaging both parents' Breeding Powers: (P1 + P2 + 1) / 2.
How many Cakes do you need per breeding?▾
One Cake per breeding attempt. Each time you want to breed, you need to place a fresh Cake in the Breeding Farm. If you're grinding for passive skills, stock up — you may need dozens of Cakes.
Can you breed Alpha Pals?▾
Yes, you can catch Alpha Pals and use them as breeding parents. However, the offspring will not be Alpha — it will be a regular version of the child Pal. Alpha status is not inherited.
Can you breed the same Pal species together?▾
Yes. Breeding two of the same species always produces another of the same species. This is the primary method for stacking passive skills — you breed two Anubis to get a better Anubis.
Why did my breeding produce a different Pal than expected?▾
Some parent combinations have hardcoded results (called special combinations) that override the Breeding Power formula. For example, Penking + Bushi always produces Anubis. Use our Child Calculator to see exactly what any combination will produce.
How long does breeding take in Palworld?▾
Breeding time depends on which Pals you are breeding and your base setup. It typically takes a few real-time minutes. Assigning Pals with Kindling to your base speeds up the process.
How do passive skills transfer during breeding?▾
Each parent contributes up to 2 passive skills to the child's potential skill pool. The child then has a chance to inherit skills from that pool. For best results, breed parents with 2 desired skills each.
Can I breed Legendary Pals?▾
Yes. Legendary Pals like Jetragon, Frostallion, Paladius, and Necromus can be bred using the right parent combinations. Use our Parent Calculator to find which parents produce each legendary Pal.
What happens if I don't have Cake in the Breeding Farm?▾
Without a Cake, no breeding will occur. The Pals will stay in the farm but no egg will be produced. Always keep Cake stocked if you are actively breeding.
Does Pal level affect the breeding result?▾
No. Pal level does not change the breeding outcome. Only the species of the parents determines the child. However, higher level parents may have more passive skills to pass on.
Can variants (Cryst, Noct, Terra, etc.) be bred?▾
Yes. Many variants have their own special parent combinations. For example, breeding specific pairs can produce Blazehowl Noct instead of regular Blazehowl. Use the Parent Calculator to find combos for any specific variant.
